Filipino-American Festival Returns to Fair Oaks Mall on May 30

Fil-Am FEST Inc. brings its annual cultural celebration back to Fairfax, with thousands expected from across the D.C. region

Fairfax, Virginia. — A nonprofit organization born from a conversation over ice cream is bringing one of Northern Virginia’s most anticipated Filipino-American cultural events back to Fair Oaks Mall. Fil-Am Spring Fest 2026 is set for Saturday, May 30, running from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Fairfax, Virginia, with thousands of attendees expected from across Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia.

The event is hosted by Fil-Am FEST Inc., short for Filipino-American Fellowship for Empowerment, Service and Transformation Incorporated, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to celebrating Filipino-American heritage while supporting humanitarian programs at home and abroad.

Festivalgoers can expect authentic Filipino food vendors, cultural and modern stage performances, local small businesses, nonprofit organizations, cultural exhibits, and family-friendly activities throughout the day.

“Fil-Am Spring Fest is a joyful gathering where people from all backgrounds can experience Filipino culture while supporting meaningful community initiatives,” said Joyce Puno, Chairperson of Fil-Am FEST Inc. “Our hope is that events like this bring people together, celebrate heritage, and inspire service.”

The organization traces its roots to the pandemic era, when two friends involved in church ministry found themselves without a community outlet. What began as a desire to raise funds for impoverished communities in the Philippines grew into something far larger after the first Fil-Am Spring Fest drew a strong crowd in 2023. By 2024, the group had formally incorporated as a nonprofit.

“We thought it might be something we could do again, but it slowly became something more,” the organization said in a written interview. “It became something people looked forward to each year.”

Beyond the festival, Fil-Am FEST Inc. runs a hunger-relief program called “A Meal for Every Juan,” which organizes large-scale volunteer meal-packing events for communities facing food insecurity and disaster-related hardship. In its most recent drive, more than 180 volunteers packed 20,000 fortified meals for distribution to families in need in both the United States and the Philippines.

The organization says it has also worked to support Filipino-American small businesses and community groups across the DMV, offering them a platform at its events and promoting them on its social media channels. In recent years, participation has expanded beyond the immediate region, with Filipino-American businesses and groups attending from other states.

Looking ahead, the organization says it plans to deepen its community programs, develop resources for newly arrived Filipino-American families adjusting to life in the DMV, and strengthen ties with other Filipino-American organizations nationwide.
